Dr. Jeff Hauswald Superintendent of Schools | Boone County School

The Kentucky Academic Standards (KAS) have introduced several resources to aid families in supporting their children's education. The KAS Family Guides are designed to help families understand the standards for each grade level, offering insights into subjects such as reading and writing, mathematics, science, and social studies. These guides cater to students from kindergarten through high school and are also available in Spanish for Spanish-speaking households.

Another resource, "A Family’s Guide to Understanding Student Assessment," aims to demystify the assessment process. It provides detailed explanations of various types of assessments including formative, diagnostic, interim, and summative. This guide helps both teachers and families establish a common understanding when discussing student evaluations.

The "Read At Home Plan Family Guide" is tailored to enhance reading skills development at home. It offers learning activities that align with Senate Bill 9 (2022), known as the Read to Succeed Act. The guide outlines Reading Improvement Plans and emphasizes the significant role families play in their children's academic success. Additionally, it includes a glossary of literacy terms along with general advice for reading practices at home. The document organizes at-home learning experiences around five key components of reading: phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.
